Effects of Nutrient Metabolism and Excess Protein Catabolism on Dairy Cow Fertility
نویسندگان
چکیده
• The metabolism of excess dietary protein results in high plasma urea nitrogen (PUN) concentrations • High PUN concentrations (and ammonia to a lesser extent) are associated with decreased fertility in lactating dairy cows • High PUN concentrations probably affect fertility via direct toxic effects on the oocyte and embryo, alterations in the uterine environment and decreased progesterone secretion • The effects on fertility may be further exacerbated by negative energy balance and heat stress

Influences of nutrition and metabolism on fertility of dairy cows
During early postpartum, high-producing dairy cows undergo a period of extensive tissue catabolism because of negative nutrient balance. Homeorrhetic controls assure that nutrients are partitioned to favor lactation at the same time that homeostasis secures survival. However, unrestrained metabolic disturbances often lead to diseases which, in turn, dramatically decrease both productive and rep...
متن کاملEffect of Feeding Quickly Degradable Nitrogen on the Development of Ovarian Follicles in Lactating Dairy Cows
The objective of this study was to examine the effect of an excess intake of quickly degradable nitrogen (QDN) on ovarian follicle development. Twenty lactating dairy cows were fed mixed silage and concentrates twice daily. The control diet was a typical ration for high producing dairy cows in the United Kingdom (crude protein (CP)=17.5%; metabolizable energy (ME)=11.8 MJ/kg DM). The cows were ...

Background: Glucocorticoids have several benefits in large animal medicine but apart from their benefits, there are several disadvantages attributed to the use of these drugs. Among the disadvantages, disturbance in protein metabolism is one of the side effects of glucocorticoids which has been investigated in human and laboratory animals. OBJECTIVES: There are no information regarding the effe...
متن کاملAmino Acid Balancing and Its Role on Metabolism, Inflammation, and Oxidative Stress: Future Molecular Implications
The modern dairy cow has been selected over generations for high milk production, with many successful dairy operations averaging over 13,500 kg of milk per lactation cycle per cow. This amount of nutrient output in the form of milk components puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the metabolism of the dairy cow, especially during early lactation. In fact, it is common to all mammals, includi...
متن کاملEstimation of Economic Values for Fertility, Stillbirth and Milk Production Traits in Iranian Holstein Dairy Cows
The objective of present study was to derive the economic values for number of inseminations to conception, calving interval, milk yield and stillbirth, using economic data of 10 Iranian Holstein herds. The economic values were derived by using the profit function methods and differentiating a profit equation with respect to the traits of interest. The cow fertility costs herd amortization or r...
